Dear Alumnae,
The past month of May has been thrilling for our beloved school. You may have already read in the papers or on social media that history has been made once again on Mount Ida through the launch of Infinite Horizon: The Campaign for Emma Willard. This will be the largest capital campaign in history for a girls’ school. I encourage all my fellow alums to take a moment to read about our school’s aspirations. It is truly awe-inspiring! What a phenomenal time to be part of this community and to proclaim our school's mission.
We are also busy planning for Reunion 2022! I hope that you will return to Mount Ida for a fun-filled Reunion Weekend June 10–12. Our campus is in full bloom, awaiting your return!
With gratitude,
Margaret Clark '98
Director of Alumnae Relations

FACULTY HIGHLIGHT
Sabra Sanwal

For 25 years, Emma Willard School has recognized the extraordinary service of teachers through the Levitt-Toohey Award for Faculty Excellence. Established by Madelyn Levitt P’66 GP’00 ’03 and her daughter, Linda Glazer Toohey ’66, P’00 ’03, this annual award honors a faculty member who is an excellent classroom teacher, and, like Ms. Levitt and Mrs. Toohey, possesses a generosity of spirit that manifests itself in a demonstrated commitment to going above and beyond the call of duty in service to students.
This year's Levitt-Toohey honoree is Sabra Sanwal. Sabra, the Nettie Sweeney and Hugh Thomas Miller Instructor in Languages, is described by students and colleagues as eager and passionate. In delivering the honor to Sabra during our Honors Convocation ceremony last month, Jenny Rao stated that Sabra is known across campus for setting high expectations, creating a classroom experience that embodies the rigor we prize. At the same time, Sabra takes the habits of an intellectual life seriously, and knows this means balancing a demanding academic program with a healthy focus on wellbeing.
Sabra has announced her retirement from Emma Willard School after 29 years as an extraordinary teacher. Please click here to share your favorite memory of Sabra Sanwal or leave well-wishes as she embarks on new adventures.
Caroline Buinicky
Emma’s very own Director of Research and Library Resources, Caroline Buinicky, was honored with the Distinguished Service Award from her alma mater, the University at Albany, this past April. During her six years at Emma Willard, Caroline has built our makerspace, revamped our research program, and led multiple technology- and reading-focused initiatives. During her time at both UAlbany and Emma Willard, Caroline has served on the organizing committee for the New York Celebration of Women in Computing (NYCWiC). Most recently, she has served as the Program Chair for the last three conferences. She loves bringing the magic of NYCWiC to women and the folks who support them. We are thrilled to count Caroline as part of our community here on Mount Ida.
